Wat te denken van Amok, Marco Remus, Pet Duo of Sven Wittekind? Laatst genoemde is één van de populairste hardtechno artiesten van de wereld en zijn agenda laat zien dat zijn stijl wijd gedragen wordt. Ook deejay Amok heeft wat dat betreft niet te klagen en heeft al vele toonaangevende techno-events op zijn CV staan. Reden genoeg voor een klein onderhoud met Amok, die één van de smaakmakers van Syndicate belooft te worden:
How did your career started?
My career started late 2000 in my parents basement. At the time, the trend in Techno started to shift towards Tech-House. The music didn’t thrill me as much as it used to, I felt something was missing. Frustrated, I composed a ridiculous hard track on my home pc and uploaded it to my mp3.com site. The feedback was great, and being unemployed at the time, I spent every waking hour making music. I posted some mixes on various techno forums and people downloaded them, burned them for their friends and shared them in Napster. I thought of a name for myself, and became something of an “underground tip”. But no label wanted to release my tracks, I was told time and time again to make something softer, because that was the current trend. When finally in 2002 Giga-Music took the risk and released my first record, it sold out within weeks. Now suddenly labels approached me. This pattern repeated itself with my DJing. In 2003, Hardtechno partys were popping up all over Europe. I found my calling.
What are you high/low points till now?
The last few years have been the best of my life and I have many great memories of festivals, but also of smaller partys in clubs like M47 in Hungary or Blau in Spain, where you have a more personal experience with the crowd and have the chance to talk with the fans. Also, working with great artists like Promo (who taught me much about producing), Daisy, Lenny Dee and many others has been a privilege. But there have been low points as well, especially during 2004 and 2006, when I had been sick for months and had to play some gigs with 40 degrees fever.
Can you compare the Dutch and German audience?
Crowds everywhere are different, even within a country. From what I can tell, the Dutch crowd seem to care more about the DJ’s performance, whereas the Germans are more interested in the party itself. After playing in the Netherlands, people will discuss the sets on partyflock, they recognize some of the records and they know when you make a mistake. Also, since they have a bigger variety of partys, the styles are more seperated than in Germany. I don’t jump around much between genres in NL, whereas in Germany I can play just about everything from Aphex Twin to Hardcore. But this too depends on the crowd and the club you play in.
Future plans?
From here on, it’s pretty much an open road. I can’t give everything away just yet, but there are some nice partys planned for 2008. Got some new releases coming up as well, a new website, a new label… The list goes on. But first things first: in January, I’ll have my first vacation in 5 years. And I intend to enjoy every second of it! 🙂
What do you expect from Syndicate?
One hell of a party! Syndicate is an unique concept, and it will attract a diverse and international crowd. I really like that it will give people a chance to check out great artists from other genres than the one they usually listen to. Personally, I will spend the whole night at the party, and definitely not just in the Techno room.
How was your summer? Any crazy gigs or funny travel stories?
What Summer? You mean those three months the sun was hiding behind all those clouds? Well, aside of the crappy weather, I had some great partys all over Europe. Luckily my traveling has been relatively comfortable this season, except for the usual madness. You know, like delayed flights, getting stuck in a Tunnel for hours because a bus breaks down in front of you and sitting in a train with 400 fat women discussing their weight problems on the day you leave your Ipod at home. It’s all in a day’s work 😉

De minimum leeftijd is 16 jaar. Bij twijfel kan er aan de ingang gevraagd worden je te legitimeren. Neem daarom een geldig legitimatiebewijs mee zodat je geen risico loopt op deze grond geweigerd te worden. Een rijbewijs, paspoort en Nederlandse identiteitskaart zijn geldige legitimatiebewijzen.

Er zal een stand aanwezig zijn waar allerlei hardcore en Syndicate artikelen verkrijgbaar zullen zijn. Tevens zal de CD compilatie van Syndicate te verkrijgen zijn met hierop de beste hardstyle, hardcore en hardtechno knallers!

Het is toegestaan een digitale camera mee te nemen naar het evenement.
